Twelve Grade 11 students from San Anton School were recently invited to participate in the annual pilgrimage to Lourdes organised by the Maltese Association of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. The students joined a contingent of 330 members and volunteers who provided care and transportation for over 40 patients visiting the shrine of Our Lady in Lourdes.
The students served as part of the Cadet Team, helping to transport sick adults and children around the shrine. They were accompanied by Ms. Nicky Azzopardi, Head of Early Years and coordinator of the Cadet team, along with Mr. John Zammit, Teacher of Religion and Grade Coordinator.
Their spiritual journey began with a sacred mass to bless the volunteers' hands, followed by a special Maltese mass celebrated by Fr. Jean at the grotto. The pilgrims participated in the Eucharistic procession and adoration at the esplanade, creating a moving experience for all involved.
The pilgrimage concluded with a closing Mass at the Basilica of the Holy Rosary and the beautiful Procession Aux Flambeaux. This transformative spiritual experience offered the students a meaningful opportunity to serve others while deepening their own faith before returning home.
