On the first morning that Ms Angele Coppini, Ms Francesca Agius Vadala and myself were in Athens, we met all the group of Heads of Schools and teachers on the penultimate Comenius mobility - some have become old friends while others were new to the group. Our Greek hosts Constantina and Mary took us on a tour of the Acropolis and the new Acropolis Museum at its foot. The Parthenon and the Porch of the Caryathids stand as majestic as ever, more so on that particular morning against a backdrop of ominous, black clouds driven by a strong, cold north wind. The newly opened museum with its huge glass walls gives the desired impression that the artefacts are to be enjoyed in natural light. </p> <p> Next morning we were off to Trikala for the long coach journey with a stop at Delphi, the mountain of Apollo, where the Ancient Greeks consulted the Oracle before each major battle or other important political decision. The long steep track up the Holy Way to the Stadium was well worth the climb. In the sunshine and silence, under an amazing blue sky one could imagine the Greeks cheering their heroes of the Pythian and Panhellenic games. </p> <p>The countries that are taking part in this multicultural project  Dear Europe... are Portugal, Spain, Italy, Poland, Hungary, Greece, Turkey and Malta  represented by two schools St. Albert the Great and San Anton. Trikala is a bustling city, smack in the middle of Greece on the fertile plain of Thessaly. The children of the 30th Elementary School, taking part in the Comenius project welcomed us with a performance consisting of an old Greek poem and various Greek dances. Later on children from the younger classes played games, one of which resembled the English  Oranges and Lemons </p> <p>The project for the meeting in Greece was a DVD with children s old games. Our Grade 2s from Ms Sharon s class played  On!i, On!i, On!ella . The Italian members of the group immediately made a connection with one of their old rhymes. During the workshops the next project which is a vibrant, colourful calendar for 2012 depicting pictures made by children from each participating country, was given the last finishing touches and will be sent by email to each school. This will be the last project as the last mobility of the three year project, will be held in Hungary between the 17th and 23rd May. </p> <p>My heartfelt thanks go to all the teachers of various grades, who contributed to making the project a success. A huge thank you goes to Ms Angele Coppini, the coordinator of the project for San Anton. Much of the groundwork was done in her free time outside school hours. There is still the time- consuming final report to be compiled now that the project is nearing its completion. Thanks to the project, many teachers from the Junior Sector visited various countries during the past three years. Special thanks go to Ms Abigail who had the task of coordinating all the children s work throughout the project. </p> <p>The experience of meeting other Heads of Schools and teachers from various countries, discussing methodologies and making new friends is very enriching.
