From September 2009 to June 2011, nine schools from eight European countries are participating together in a European funded project known as Comenius. The current project is called “Dear Europe” and includes different tasks and activities.
The participating countries are Greece, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, Malta - San Anton School and Malta -St. Albert The Great.
The project objectives are to learn from an interactive perspective, and to foster a desire and curiosity for education and learning on an international level
Students learn about other cultures and have the opportunity to present these activities to the students of participating countries.
Ms. Rosanne Demanuele (Assistant Head of Junior Sector) and Ms. Angele Coppini
(Project Co-Ordinator and Drama Teacher ) have just returned from Portugal where they presented a project, by the Grade 7 students and their teachers about San Anton School and its environment.
As part of the project, students from the participating countries were asked to design a logo for this International Project. The Spanish logo was chosen followed by that of San Anton School designed by students Virag Vincze and Rebecca Mohnani.
Ms.Rosanne and Ms.Angele visited various Primary and Secondary schools in the Baroque city of Braga and had the opportunity to discuss various teaching methods and exchange ideas with participating teachers from the different countries. They also visited many interesting places in Northern Portugal, among them Porto, Esposende, Viana do Castelo and Guimaraes.
Workshops were held where the project was presented to all participating countries and future projects discussed.
“ The Comenius Project is a very enriching experience for both teachers and students since it fosters, collegiality and the exchange of ideas across nations,” concluded Ms. Rosanne.
