20th Anniversary Art Exhibition at Auberge D`Italie.

In the twenty years since its` inception, San Anton School has always set great store in the whole education of the child. “ We have always believed that education had to mean much more than preparation for examinations. In seeking to provide such an education San Anton knew that art must play a central role.” Comments Head of School , Ms Vicki Anastasi.

From an early age students, most ably assisted by the school’s very fine art teachers, are empowered to explore, observe and record the world around them. Their abilities to express those observations and recordings are encouraged and developed, and all children benefit from this process.

The school has therefore chosen this twentieth anniversary year to display to the members of the school community and the wider public the results of the San Anton ethos applied to art, at the prestigious Auberge D`Italie in Valletta, in the form of 79 works of mixed media.

San Anton`s Annual Art Exhibition usually exhibits the work of Grade 12 students only, but this year on show, besides the works of their Grade 12 students, displaying the culmination of twelve years of exposure to art, there are works by current students of all Grades, which reveal to the viewers the process of growth in art.

“ We have also gone further this special year by inviting Old Antonians and San Anton teachers, not necessarily art teachers, to exhibit. We have done this because we believe that education goes beyond the classroom and connects to the world outside. Our former students are proof that this process continues beyond the school years. Our teachers are also given the opportunity to show that special creativity which contributes so much to their empowerment of our children.” Concluded Ms Anastasi.

The exhibition was inaugurated by the Hon. Minister for Education and Culture, Dolores Cristina on Thursday 11th June 2009. The general public is invited to view this unusual exhibition between the 12th to the 25th June 2009, Monday to Friday between 09.00hrs and 17.00hrs.

This exhibition is being supported by Central Cement Ltd, and is being held under the auspices of the Parliamentary Secretariat for Tourism.
