San Anton School Junior Sector celebrates the feast of St. Anthony the Abbot.

On Thursday 17th January 2008, San Anton School`s Junior Sector revived an old school tradition by organizing Pets` Day on the feast of St. Anthony the Abbot.

As the School opened it`s doors in the morning, the excited students streamed in excitedly with their pets, whilst the Junior Sector common area was transformed into a menagerie of dogs, cats, tortoises, turtles, birds, goldfish, rabbits and hamsters..

Dun Gorg Dalli, the Schools Spiritual Director retold the story of St. Anthony the Abbot, patron saint of the Animal Kingdom and led the children in prayer to bless their animals. Veterinarian Dr Quentin Lawson gave an interesting talk on general pet care and answered the eager childrens` numerous questions on the subject.

The children proudly paraded their pets, and this  memorable event was brought to an end  with Ms. Rosanne Demanuele, the Assistant Head for the Junior Sector distributing the traditional “Hobza ta` Sant Antnin” to each child,  symbolic of the Raven that brought bread to St. Anthony whilst he was living in solitude.

This event was sponsored by “Eucanuba” who generously distributed Books, Pet food and  Animal Calendars to each Classroom, and prizes for an Animal Drawing Competition which is taking place in all Junior Grades as a follow up to the day.
