On Thursday 12th February 2009, San Anton School welcomed a distinguished guest to its` Junior Sector.
Vicar Grandmaster Chev, Count Calleja of the Holy Sepulchre was invited to school to address the Grades Fives, Sixes and Sevens upon an initiative by Grade Five teacher Ms. Anna Degiorgio as part of their studies in Maltese History.
The students were captivated by the Grand Master and they were eager to find out at firsthand more information about the origins of the knights, their history and cause.
Excitement ran high when the Grandmaster donned his robes and finery and pointed out differences between the vestements of the Knights of St John, and the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre. They were keen to find out more, as this was a unique opportunity to consolidate all that they have been learning in class.
“I think that the Grandmaster is brave, generous, helpful and thoughtful. His speech was very interesting. His clothes are very smart and his jewels are very shiny and they look very special. If I were to become a dame, I would pray to God and help the poor. The Grandmaster taught us a lot of things and he told us about the Knights of Malta. I enjoyed his visit very much, commented Lara Vella a Grade Five student.“
“ It was a very interesting morning for me. The Grandmaster who came to talk to us was very kind. Some of the things he told us, I didn`t even know about. I also thought his cloak was beautiful and his medals were dazzling” said Melusine Quercia, a Grade Seven student.
“ The Grandmaster said very interesting things about the Knights. It was an honour meeting him because, after all, he is both a Knight of St John, and the Grandmaster of the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre.” concluded Andrea Coleiro another grade seven student.
